Whilst the concept of Virtual Reality has been around since the 80s, we are only just beginning to scratch the surface of how these immersive devices can enhance our cultural experiences and creative endeavours.
The Riddoch has embraced this technology and created a Media & VR Studio to host touring exhibitions that can accommodate groups of six people at a time.
From the safety of our suite we have taken audiences on an exploration of Aboriginal dance and song at iconic locations throughout Australia (Carriberrie), and on a journey of atomic bomb testing and how that impacted our indigenous cultures (Collisions).
For fun we ride rollercoasters, walk amongst the stars, play with dinosaurs, and deliver fun experiences acted out in 360 degrees.
Taking VR technology to the next level, we also offer an Oculus Rift that takes you right into the action as a participant. With Google Tilt Brush you use a variety of brush styles and palettes to paint within a landscape that engulfs you on all sides. Likewise with Medium you can sculpt within virtual reality, and then take the file to a 3D printer!
Fully immersive and interactive. Discover new worlds in VR, or create your own, at the Media & VR Studio on the King’s Floor. Check our events calendar for workshops, exhibitions and activities.
