Defining an Era – Artists of Adelaide

from The Riddoch collection

30 July - 25 September 2022
Margaret Scott Gallery

South Australia is a great state of creative wealth. Rather than being tied to the prevailing and rigid art histories of the eastern states, what emerged in the post-modern era (think 1980s) was a defiant, and urgent sense of art making. As your eagle eye will confirm, there are few visual parallels to draw between the artists on display here. Rather, what each artist has in common is that at some stage they have called Adelaide home, or indeed, still do.
Pursuing an artistic career in the competitive artworld is no mean feat, and each artist has equally achieved national success and recognition.
Drawn from the Riddoch collection, this exhibition is a showcase of South Australian creativity and independence.

We acknowledge the Boandik Peoples as the traditional custodians of the land we meet on today. We respect their spiritual relationship with the land and recognise the deep feelings of attachment our First Nations Peoples have with the land.
