FLIGHT MODE

from the Riddoch collection

26 November 2024 - 17 August 2025
The Hangar Gallery, Mount Gambier Regional Airport

In collaboration with District Council of Grant at the newly founded ‘The Hangar Gallery’ at Mount Gambier Regional Airport, The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre presents Flight Mode, an exhibition of works from the Riddoch collection that welcomes and farewells travellers to the region, telling a story of its natural surroundings while reflecting on the sense of journey from one place or state to another.

When we put our phones to flight mode we take a step back from our cyber-selves to be suspended, literally, in the air and to experience the world from up high. Gazing over the land at 10,000 feet we are able to disconnect and disassemble, turning the world below into a dreamscape that combines a sense of our own history or memory with the plains, trees, hills and waterways.

From Barrie Goddard’s super-panoramic photo collage Southern Mount Schank to Neil Frazer’s evocative Shadow Side, Flight Mode explores the Limestone Coast and its natural wonders while taking us on a flight of fancy around Mount Gambier Airport.

We acknowledge the Boandik Peoples as the traditional custodians of the land we meet on today. We respect their spiritual relationship with the land and recognise the deep feelings of attachment our First Nations Peoples have with the land.
