PORTRAITS OF OUR ELDERS

14 June - 20 July 2025
King's Floor

In collaboration with Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation, Mount Gambier, The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre brings together a group of portraits reflecting on the lives of Boandik Elders, shining a light on their histories, achievements and connection to place.

Familiar faces in our community, these Elders have been photographed in their favourite and most sacred spaces around the region to be shown together throughout NAIDOC week 2025.

In the spirit of promoting truth telling and encouraging open conversations about Australia’s difficult history, Portraits of our Elders is an important exhibition that allows us to meet the Elders’ gaze and stand with key members of our First Nations community.

This project is supported by the City of Mount Gambier’s Creative Arts Fund.

We acknowledge the Boandik Peoples as the traditional custodians of the land we meet on today. We respect their spiritual relationship with the land and recognise the deep feelings of attachment our First Nations Peoples have with the land.
