The Riddoch Art Gallery is now calling for entries for the 2020 International Limestone Coast Video Art Festival. Australian and international video artists are invited to apply for a chance to win a grand prize of $3,000 cash.
Presented by The Riddoch and Main Corner Complex, the International Limestone Coast Video Art Festival is a biennial event that aims to celebrate the creation of video art and places emphasis on innovative and ground breaking artworks.
Following on from the successful inaugural festival held in 2018, the 2020 event is set to be held from 6 November to 6 December with the theme ‘video art during and after the pandemic’.
“We invite video artists to send us works that convey how the global COVID-19 pandemic is affecting their lives and practice.” – Riddoch Art Gallery Director Melentie Pandilovski
“With many artists around the planet in lock-down or quarantine, facing the physical, psychological, and emotional effects they are undoubtedly coming up with creative solutions to the concerns and challenges caused by the COVID-19, we therefore invite you to share your video art stories to address these issues.”
“Many of these stories will be addressing various anxieties, worries, and economic strains, however there are also optimistic stories, filled with humour, contemplation, solidarity, community mindfulness, compassion, and cheerfulness.”
Submission entry is free, and may include one work per artist or group of artists. Submitted works can be up to eight minutes long and must be produced after 1 January 2020.
Entries are open now and close on 1 August 2020. *DEADLINE FOR LOCAL LIMESTONE COAST ENTRIES HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 16 AUGUST*
The festival program will include an exhibition, conference, screenings, and workshops.
“We anticipate the festival will become a truly shared artistic space and international story-telling of solidarity and community wellbeing,” Dr Pandilovski said.
“We hope it will show the power of art by bringing our community and the world together, despite the pandemic restrictions.”
