Future Dreaming – VR Film

Event Time: 23 Nov - 2 Feb, 2 sessions daily

Event Location: Media & VR Studio

Event Type:

In this immersive Virtual Reality Film you will step into a time warping dream bubble as four young Aboriginal Australians guide you through their futures. Their stories evolve from the present day to 20 years into the future where Nelson’s driving space trains, Maverick’s hanging out with robots, Ali’s a world famous performer and Maxie’s the Governor of an off-world colony powered by emus on treadmills. Be ready for an intergalactic adventure. Look out for the space emus!

Future Dreaming was inspired by the ancient Australian practice of Dreamtime, a mental visualisation technique where you see your spirit move through the past, present or future. Our young protagonists; Ali Lockyer, Maverick Eaton, Nelson & Maxie Coppin, collaborated with VR artist Sutu (Stuart Campbell) to design their Future Dreaming in the limitless creative space of Virtual Reality.

At its core Future Dreaming represents an opportunity for these young people, who hail from a remote region of Western Australia, to dream big and to be included in the technological possibilities of prototyping their own futures.

We acknowledge the Boandik Peoples as the traditional custodians of the land we meet on today. We respect their spiritual relationship with the land and recognise the deep feelings of attachment our First Nations Peoples have with the land.
