ALMOST HERE, ALMOST NOW

Various artists

21 June - 24 August 2025
Main Gallery, Margaret Scott Gallery, Cathleen Edkins Gallery

Drawing from the collections of The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre and the National Gallery of Australia, the Riddoch presents Almost Here, Almost Now: a far-reaching exhibition that pulls together works from public collections to hone in on existential questions of belonging and identity.

Exploring ancient, contemporary and imagined future relationships between land and sky, these works prompt comparisons between the deep time of space and deep time on Earth while situating the dirt beneath our feet as a subject for closer examination.

Spanning media and generations of Australian art, from Jeffrey Smart to Emily Kngawarray to Fiona Hall to Shaun Gladwell, Almost Here, Almost Now invites you to stroll through the sombre and the sublime, to behold the celestial and terrestrial, and find our own spot in between.

We acknowledge the Boandik Peoples as the traditional custodians of the land we meet on today. We respect their spiritual relationship with the land and recognise the deep feelings of attachment our First Nations Peoples have with the land.
