Four Rolls of Tape and a Bucket

Kirsten Johnston

29 April - 25 June 2023
Margaret Scott Gallery

Behind each work of art and artist is an art practice—that mysterious and sometimes elusive combination of inspiration, work, time, doubt and courage.

Four Rolls of Tape and a Bucket gives a glimpse into the world of that art practice; into the objects and elements of painting and its emotional and intellectual challenges and successes. From finished works through to the detritus of creation, this exhibition takes the viewer into the studio alongside the raw materials, the mistakes, the smells and the joys of a life in art.

Process and art practice are as individual as artists themselves and, in this exhibition, Kirsten Johnston seeks only to examine her own mode of working. With wall mounted paintings and installation elements, this exhibition provides a colourful and immersive experience in a creative space.
