My Left Leg

Various Artists

2 - 20 DEC
Kings Floor

The My Left Leg project is an art competition and exhibition designed to increase awareness about the difficulties people with disabilities have negotiating a world built by those without a disability.

The Project is the concept of the Limestone Coast Inclusion Reference Group. Members of this group either have disabilities or have a family member with a disability. The group have helped with consultation for local Council’s Disability Access Inclusion Plans and have projects underway with a focus on accessibility and inclusion in community for all.

There are two main categories: artists with disability and artists without disability, and two subcategories within each: 16 & Under and Open.
Artists with a disability were asked to create an artwork which depicts their disability along with a short story about their disability and how it impacts on their everyday life. Those without a disability were given a choice of 5 disabilities to do an artwork based on their interpretation of that disability and a short story on how they came to that interpretation.

Artworks will be on display in the Kings Floor until 20 December.

We acknowledge the Boandik Peoples as the traditional custodians of the land we meet on today. We respect their spiritual relationship with the land and recognise the deep feelings of attachment our First Nations Peoples have with the land.
