PORTRAITS OF OUR ELDERS
14 June - 20 July 2025 King's Floor
In collaboration with Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation, The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre brings together a group of portraits of First Nations Elders from across the region, shining a light on their histories, achievements and connection to place.
Journeying across Country, writer Charlotte Lovett and photographer Wanita Robinson travelled across Boandik Country to Raukkan on Ngarrindjeri Country and on to Lake Condah Mission on Gunditjmara Country. Gathering and sharing stories on the way, the pair met with First Nations Elders who sat for these intimate portraits taken in their homes and sacred spaces.
With a vision to promote truth telling and encourage cultural understanding about Australia’s difficult history, Portraits of our Elders is an important exhibition that allows us to meet the gaze and stand with key members of our First Nations community.
Portraits of our Elders is scheduled to run throughout NAIDOC week celebrations 6 – 13 July 2025, coinciding with the release of the publication Stories of our Elders by Charlotte Lovett on 7 July 2025.
This project is supported by the City of Mount Gambier’s Creative Arts Fund.
