Taking inspiration from key works in the Embroiderers’ Guild of South Australia Museum, The Embroiderers’ Guild of Mount Gambier bring us the curious and colourful exhibition Seven Stitches.

Showcasing works that feature seven types of embroidery: blackwork, cross stitch, crewel, sashiko, stump work, canvas work and metal-thread goldwork, members from the Mount Gambier Embroiderers’ Guild create beautiful and ornate pieces that both honour the tradition of embroidery and reinterpret their usage to create contemporary artworks.

Making reference to the artform’s roots in both simple mending techniques and opulent displays of wealth, the artists in Seven Stitches take us on a journey from the craft’s humble beginnings to its place today as an expressive artform.
